What is hay fever?

This condition is caused by allergens in the environment, like grass, weed, or tree pollen, dust mites, molds, and animal dander, getting into the nose or eyes.

Most people think it mostly is happening in the spring when the most grass pollen is in the air. This is called spring hay fever or seasonal allergic rhinitis. However, it can happen at any time of the year, though.

It is called “perennial allergic rhinitis” when the symptoms happen all year long. Perennial allergic rhinitis is usually caused by an allergic reaction to allergens like dust mites, molds, animal dander, or allergens in the workplace.
