Vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids, and other substances that come in the form of pills, tablets, capsules, liquids, etc., can be used.

Who needs a food supplement?
Supplements can’t take the place of a healthy, well-balanced diet. A diet full of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, enough protein, and healthy fats should give you all the nutrients you need to stay healthy.
Supplements are not mentioned in typical the guidelines, but some people may need advice about supplements even if they eat a healthy, well-balanced diet. For example, women of childbearing age and people taking certain medications may need advice about supplements.
