What is Cortisol?

Cortisol is one of the glucocorticoids. It is a type of steroid hormone. It is made in the cortex of the adrenal glands, and then the blood carries it all over the body. Further more almost every cell has a receptor for this, so cortisol can do many different things depending on the type of cell it is acting on.

This includes controlling:

The amount of sugar in the blood, which controls the metabolism,
Act as an anti-inflammatory,
Affect the way memories are made,
The amount of salt and water in the body,
Control of blood pressure,
Helping a fetus develop.

What can CBD help with?

CBD and Cortisol

CBD is a type of cannabinoid that is known to work with the endocannabinoid system in your body. Your body’s homeostasis is controlled by the ECS. But it might also have an effect on your endocrine system.

CBD interacts with cannabinoid receptors in your body. These receptors are often found in glands that make cortisol, like the adrenal glands. Because of this, CBD may be able to change how much these glands make.
