Currently, research in the cannabis world has found that the cannabinoid called CBN or Cannabinol is one of the molecules responsible for sleep and other benefits. But what is CBN really? What are its benefits? Is it legal to use? Discover all the answers to these questions in this article!

What is Cannabinol or CBN?

CBN or cannabinol does not come directly from the hemp flower like other cannabis molecules. Instead, it is an acid component called CBNA. It is presented without THC and can only be obtained from the decarboxylation of the latter after interaction with heat and direct contact with oxygen.

What are the benefits of CBN?

At present, research into the strengths of CBN is still limited due to its complex synthesis. Unlike other hemp molecules, CBN has difficulty binding to the endocannabinoid receptors in our body.

In general, CBN and CBD have almost the same effects. Studies have shown that CBN has many therapeutic properties. Among other things, it helps to:

  • Easily fall asleep.
  • Stimulate appetite, ideal for patients suffering from anorexia.
  • Relieve .
  • Act like antibiotics
  • Alleviate pain thanks to its strong analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Calm asthma attacks.
  • Relieve glaucoma and eye pressure.
  • Calming convulsive seizures.
  • Delaying the risk of neurodegenerative disorders.
  • Controlling the development of skin cells and intervening in the care of burns, etc.

In addition to the above-mentioned benefits, experts have found that CBN has the following effects

Relaxing

Like CBD, CBN has been found to have relaxing and calming benefits. It lowers and can also calm post-traumatic stress. Thanks to these effects, it helps to find sleep. It also acts as an antidepressant. The better you sleep at night, the better your body will feel.

Natural and powerful anti-bacterial

Scientists have found in numerous studies that CBN also has an antibacterial effect. Indeed, researchers have found that strains of bacteria, against which standard antibiotics have no effect, are not resistant to CBN. In fact, the results are said to be impressive. CBN may soon be used as an antibacterial instead of the antibiotics we usually take to treat virulent infections.

Appetite stimulant

In studies on mice in the laboratory, experts have found that mice eat much more than usual after eating cannabinol. This shows that cannabinol is an appetite stimulant, just like . Researchers are currently conducting human studies to confirm this hypothesis.

Powerful neuroprotectant

Researchers have tested CBN in the treatment of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) with conclusive results. This research has shown that this molecule has a neuroprotective effect and delays potential age-related diseases.

Anti-inflammatory

Like , cannabinol also has anti-inflammatory properties. In tests on mice, researchers have found that CBN is also effective in treating rheumatoid arthritis. Research on humans is still needed to confirm this possibility.

Natural and powerful sleeping aid

It turns out that CBN also has a very strong sleep-inducing effect on the elderly. Since it acts as a relaxant and soothes stress and anxiety, it helps people to fall asleep easily. It, therefore, helps to find sleep easily. For people with sleep problems, CBN is the perfect natural solution to prevent insomnia.

Does CBN really have an effect on sleep?

CBN is also known as the “sleeping cannabinoid”. As the name suggests, it has been found by experts to have sedative properties. In fact, CBN has the strongest sedative power of all known .

Indeed, CBN combined with THC gives the tranquilizing result. This combination is more powerful in Indica cannabis than in Sativa. It is also feasible to add CBD to this combination to achieve more effect, especially for people with acute drowsiness concerns.

Experts have found that the drowsiness effect is achieved by the higher content of relaxing in mature cannabis flowers, such as myrcene or linalool. These molecules produce an entourage effect and enhance the effectiveness of the sedative property.

It is because of this property that CBN is currently recognized as a very strong natural sleep aid. This molecule is often recommended in combination with CBD, which is legal in Europe.

Does CBN make you feel high?

CBN is a cannabinoid that has no psychotropic effect. Like CBD, it provides relaxation and probably a feeling of drowsiness. However, it does not give you a high like the effect of THC.

What about legislation in relation to CBN?

CBN is a molecule obtained from the decarboxylation of THC. However, cannabinol is not on the list of substances considered illegal by the United Nations.

Research on CBN is still ongoing. But to date, CBN is not considered an illegal substance. As it is obtained from hemp, which in some countries is quite legal, it will give a new treatment method to hemp.

How do you make CBN?

As already mentioned, cannabinol or CBN is produced from a chemical breakdown of THC. When THC is oxidized, i.e. exposed to the air, it matures and changes into CBN. So as the THC gradually disappears, the CBN effects appear and increase.

In other words, at the very beginning of fresh cannabis flowers, there is a high percentage of a cannabinoid acid called THCA. This then becomes THC during the decarboxylation process. Once the flowers are exposed to UV light or open-air, it loses the hydrogen molecules. Thus, oxidation transforms THCA into CBNa and finally into CBN.

It should be noted that cannabis ages for a long time in non-optimal conditions and gradually loses its psychoactive effects. In this case, it becomes richer in CBN than in THC. For this reason, many consumers choose to store cannabis in opaque, sealed jars to prevent the intrusion of UV rays and oxygen.

In short, CBN is derived from the breakdown of THC. This molecule has many benefits. In fact, many companies are currently working on the development of CBN-based products. Soon, items such as oils, capsules, patches, or food products will be available that will allow us to enjoy all the benefits that CBN can provide.
