Introduction

Over the last few years, we have all learned that full-spectrum CBD oils are one of the best ways to take CBD.

Full-spectrum CBD oils are made from the flowers and leaves of the Hemp plant using CO2 Extraction. This process leaves you with one of the most well-rounded, versatile health products on the market today!

However, there is a new kid on the block and their name is CBD distillate! But what is it and why is it better for you?

What is Distillation?

The-Real-CBD-Blog-What-Is-Distillation

Distillation is defined as:

  • The action of purifying a liquid by a process of heating and/or cooling. Distillation is a process that creates concentrates that are “cleaner” than other concentrates in that they're pure on a molecular level.

In less ‘jargony' terms, distillation is the process of heating and cooling something to remove specific compounds or impurities in it. Think back to science experiments at school where you boiled salt water to remove the salt and leave you with pure, clean water. This is a type of distillation!

Another easily recognizable form of distillation is used for producing strong alcoholic spirits like whiskey and vodka.

In order to create stronger forms of alcohol, you need to remove the water from your spirit. Because alcohol evaporates at a much lower temperature than water, you can heat the spirit to evaporate and condense the alcohol to collect it in a more potent form.

What is CBD Distillate?

It is a form of CBD oil that has undergone the process of distillation to remove specific cannabinoids from the original full-spectrum oil (usually THC).

The process of distillation allows for the removal of either all other except CBD () or choice removal of specific cannabinoids like THC (broad-spectrum CBD).

The distillation of hemp oil allows for the extraction of cannabinoids that offer a pure, versatile, and potent product that has unlimited potential as far as usage is concerned.

They are also one of the most potent types of concentrate that exist on the market but getting them to this form takes a lot of time and effort. You can think of CBD distillates (CBD isolate in particular) a bit like the hard liquor of the CBD world!

Does CBD Distillate have THC?

This product contains virtually zero THC.

However, it's impossible to say fully whether every single last trace of THC has been removed because at a certain level THC becomes undetectable. This is why broad-spectrum CBD oils are sometimes referred to as THC non-detect.

Legally speaking, distillates cannot contain any more than 0.02% THC. In fact, our range of Pure CBD Oil's contains less than 0.01% THC.

Compare this to a oil, which can contain up to 10x more (0.2%) THC. But, don't worry, even at 0.3%, the THC levels are so low that you will never experience any psychoactive effects when taking CBD oil.

How do you Make CBD Distillates?

To create distillate, heat is used to vaporise the cannabinoids in the original full-spectrum oil. This vapour is then collected in a distillation cooling system.

This process can eliminate everything from the CBD including other cannabinoids like THC, terpenes, flavonoids, fats, waxes and chlorophyll.

In turn, this creates a clean, very concentrated liquid that is also completely solvent-free. The distillate can then be either used as it is or mixed into other cannabinoids to create broad-spectrum oils.

The benefit of carrying out this process is that it offers manufacturers complete control over which cannabinoids are going into certain products.

There's a reason people in the industry sometimes refer to CBD distillate as The Pure. That's exactly what it is – a product that's virtually pure cannabinoids.

Pure distillate is generally left in a powder or golden crystal form that has almost no smell and no taste. This is because all the terpenes are removed during the distillation process.

Is CBD Distillate Better for You?

This entirely depends on what you want out of your CBD product! For example, CBD isolates are a fantastic way to take a pure form of the cannabinoid, cannabidiol (CBD). CBD alone has an enormous range of health benefits.

However, when you take a broad or full-spectrum CBD oil, you get to experience a phenomenon known as ‘the entourage effect'. The entourage effect is where the full range of cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, fats and waxes found with a full spectrum CBD work together in unison, amplifying their benefits.

More often than not, consumers opting for a CBD distillate or broad-spectrum CBD product are trying to steer clear of THC. This might be due to drugs testing at work or as part of a sports club – or even just down to personal preference.

What are the Benefits of CBD Distillate?

Distilling cannabidiol creates other cannabinoid distillates as well!

As we are sure you can imagine, it's not only CBD distillate you can make from .

Because a full-spectrum oil contains a huge number of different cannabinoids, the distillation process means we can make CBG, CBC, CBN, THC, THCV distillate and so on. Any cannabinoid found within hemp or can be distilled into a very concentrated, pure form.

We can get creative with new distilled full-spectrum products!

Science keeps finding new benefits for each of the different cannabinoids. After distillation,  we can capture these different cannabinoids in a pure form separated from all impurities. This means we can make different compositions for different conditions.

We are no longer bound by how much of each cannabinoid there are in a CBD extract, coming from one type of hemp. We can mix, match, add and subtract until we find the perfect “recipe” for a particular condition – all according to the individual cannabinoid's benefits and stronghold.

You don't have to use as much.

Something great about the potency of hemp distillates is that you can use less of them than other traditional CBD products to achieve the desired effects.

Think of it a bit like drinking alcohol. You only need a couple of shots of a pure spirit like vodka to achieve the same effect. The same as a couple of much larger glasses of wine or beer would!

Distillation of Cannabidiol is incredibly versatile.

We will go on to discuss this in a bit more detail in a moment. However, due to the purity of CBD distillates, they are incredibly versatile in the range of applications and consumption.

They can be vaped using vape pens, cooked with, dabbed, used as oils, rubbed topically into the skin, and more!

CBD distillates offer you more control

Because of the variety of products now catering to CBD enthusiasts. You can have far more control over the exact level of CBD or other cannabinoids that you want to consume.

For example, if you are concerned about the levels of certain other cannabinoids found in full-spectrum CBD oils. Then you can now opt for products like our 99.8% CBD crystals. Buying ultrapure CBD crystals allows you to then consume or mix them however you like!

How can you use CBD distillate?

CBD distillate is one of the most versatile forms of cannabinoids that exists.  As a result, it is quickly becoming one of the most popular CBD products on the market. today

The following are a few different ways to use it.

TOPICALS AND BEAUTY PRODUCTS

Hemp-infused topicals and CBD beauty products have become a very popular new market. CBD (and THC) topicals offer some serious localized relief to sore muscles and chronic pain associated with inflammation.

The topical application of a CBD product is less likely to make you experience a range of full-body effects. However, they are a fantastic way of directly applying CBD to a specific and targeted area of your body!

Simply add CBD distillate to a bit of coconut oil. Then you've got a great base to make different DIY CBD-infused balm.

VAPING

CBD distillates are most used like other concentrates and consumed by inhaling with a vape pen or an e-cigarette.

Vaping it offers the quickest, most potent application, with effects that can be noticed almost immediately.  This can be attributed to the incredibly high levels of bioavailability. Experienced when vaping compared with other consumption methods like edibles or topicals.

Distillates produce a virtually odourless, tasteless vapour (unless it's been flavoured with something else). This is because distillates lack the terpenes that give hemp and cannabis its famous aroma!

Vaping distillate can also offer quick therapeutic effects that can be beneficial to those with more serious problems.

EDIBLES

Distillates make an awesome addition to edibles and allow anyone to easily cook with cannabinoids. Because distillate has already gone through decarboxylation (activation of the cannabinoids by heat) it's ready to go. Plus, as it's virtually odourless and tasteless, your edibles won't taste like hemp or smell like cannabis!

Hemp distillates make preparing edibles at home easier than ever. Just don't forget that when it comes to edibles, a little bit goes a long way. If you plan on using it in your home cooking, be sure to introduce it to your favourite dishes in low doses (5mg or less). Just until you find that sweet spot that works perfectly for you.
